April Ross
April Ross was one of the few female beach volleyball players who have won medals at more than one Olympics. In Tokyo over the next several days, she'll be aiming to net her third medal with fellow the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. But more than that, Ross will be aiming for her first Olympic gold. And at the age of 39 this may be her last opportunity to achieve it. Her optimism is that she can achieve top honors. Ross said on NBC Boston that if they are at their absolute best or even a good game her team can win a gold medal. "I'm trying to also try some luck." Ross born in 1982 and was raised in Costa Mesa California with her siblings and parents, started participating in the sports of Newport Harbor High School. Ross played in numerous sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. Her prep athletic career included indoor volleyball as well as basketball, track and running. But she clearly was an edge over the other players in the latter sport. In her time at high school, she played middle blocker outside setter and hitter on the volleyball court per her college bio. In recognition of her accomplishments, she received the Gatorade Award for National Player 1999. The skills she showed in volleyball also won her the Orange County Athlete of the Awards in the year 2000. Even though Ross Klineman and Ross are a couple since the year 2017, Klineman was already an established athlete on the beach long before their pairing. In reality, she was a winner of multiple major tournaments with two different partners, one of whom is the volleyball legend. Between 2007 and 2013, she was partnered by Jennifer Kessy, who is now her coach. Together together with Kessy Ross, she won an Olympic Title in 2009 when she competed on the international circuit. They were awarded a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team to beat out for gold. As fate would have it Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. They won the bronze medal in beach volleyball during the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross was a player for the USC Trojans in college years after she graduated in high school. Her time at USC was impressive. When she was a freshman at the school in 2000 she played her way to Pac-10 as well as NCAA The Freshman of the Year honors and was an All-American. In addition, she helped her Trojans get to the Final Four. The second season of her career she suffered a devastating personal loss, yet managed to earn the honor of being named an All-American. Over her final 2 years in the Trojans program, she coached the Trojans to winning a national title each year. She had established her place as a legend having won the 2003-04 Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross majored in International Relations at USC. Unfortunately, Ross mom Margie never got to see Ross's daughter reach the highest levels of beach volleyball superstardom. In 2001 when Ross was a sophomore studying at USC her mother died of breast cancer. She still holds her mother close to her heart. Also, Margie remains a source of encouragement for her on the beach as well as in everyday the world of.
