Fawn Mckay

Fawn McKay was born 15 September 1915, in Ogden Utah. Fawn McKay, educated in the Mormon Church's First Family, used her literary talent and expertise in research to write the fascinating psycho-historical biographical biography of Joseph Smith. Published in 1945 under the title of No Man is a Master of My History, she used both. The title comes from the funeral sermon of Joseph Smith, who was the creator of the Church of Latter-Day Saints. Smith shocked his listeners by proclaiming: "You don't even know my name. It's been a long time since you've seen my heart." Nobody knows my story. Nobody knows my story. Fawn the 29 year old woman wrote: "Since that moment of truthfulness, three or more writers have picked up the task." Some people have tried to make him god, others have been accusing him of being a liar. A few even attempted an invasive diagnosis. The problem is that the documents don't exist. They're simply contradictory. The task of assembling the documents, of separating firsthand accounts from third-hand plagiarism of fitting Mormon and non-Mormon narratives into a mosaic that makes credible the history. It is fascinating and informative. This is the kind of task to which Fawn Brodie devoted herself professionally. Her writings and research helped bring fame throughout the world: Thaddeus Stephens. The Devil drives (1959). Thomas Jefferson. An Personal History of Richard Nixon (1974), after the death of Richard Nixon.
