Rosalia Vila Tobella[2] (born 25 September 1992),[3] known mononymously as Rosalia (Spanish: [rosa'li.a], Catalan: [ruz@'li.@]),[4][5][6] is a Spanish singer. Born and raised on the suburbs of Barcelona She has been described as being an "atypical pop singer" due to her genre-bending musical styles. [9] She was captivated by Spanish folk music when she was 13 years old. She was a musicologist at Catalonia College of Music and also performed at weddings. Mixing flamenco with hip hop and pop, the album spawned "Malamente" (single) and "Pienso in tu Mira" (single). Both songs became hugely popular and received widespread critical acclaim. [11] Recipient of the Latin Grammy Award for Album of the Year and featured in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, El Mal Querer started the ascendance of Rosalia into the international music scene. Rosalia, who explored urban music in her 2019 albums "Con Altura", and "Yo Ti Tu x Mi", has achieved worldwide success. She gave reggaeton an innovative approach to her third studio album Motomami (2022) that departed from the modern flamenco sound of its predecessor. The album featured singles "La Fama," and "Saoko" The album was a big success across the globe and was voted the best-rated album of the year by Metacritic. Rosalia has had ten top one songs in her native country throughout her career. This is the highest number she has ever achieved for a local artist. She has also won two Grammy Awards, eleven Latin Grammy Awards (including two Album of the Year wins) Four MTV Video Music Awards, an MTV Europe Music Award, three UK Music Video Awards and two Premio Ruido awards, among other things. In the year 2019 Billboard gave her the Rising Star Award for "changing the music of the present day music with her innovative flamenco-influenced pop",[18] and became the first Latino-singing group in history to be recognized as the Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards. Rosalia was born on 25 September 1992 in Sant Cugat del Valles and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires,[20][21][22] Baix Llobregat, Catalonia. The family she was born into has no artistic heritage, she is the youngest daughter of Pilar Tobella, a businesswoman who has a family-owned business that specializes in metalwork. Her father, Jose Manuel Vila, was born in Cudillero, Asturias. They divorced in the year 2019. [23] Rosalia's older sister Pilar Vila, who was born in 1989, is her stylist. Rosalia was fascinated by performing arts from her early years. She discovered the discography of Camaron De la Isla. She began her musical training at Taller de Musics. She completed a 6 year program at the academy. She was a student at the Raval School, then transferred to the Superior School of Music of Catalonia. In addition, she was a singer on her own at weddings and bars that were musical where she was paid "a barely over 80 euros in exchange for dinner". In that period, Rosalia met many underground Spanish musicians who were to succeed, such as La Zowi, Yung Beef, Kaydy Cain, Hinds and Maria Escarmiento.
